What is Defence technology?

Defence technology refers to the use of advanced scientific and engineering concepts and equipment for military purposes. It includes weapons, communication systems, surveillance tools, and more, all aimed at protecting a country from external threats. The goal is to deter adversaries, defend against attacks, and, if necessary, engage in military operations.


Through the Make In India initiative, India seeks to diminish its dependency on imported defence equipment and technology while concurrently boosting its defence exports to claim a portion of the $2.1 trillion global defence market.


Currently, India stands as the third-highest global military spender, accounting for 3.7% of the world's military expenditure at $76.6 billion in 2022, following the United States and China.
